Reserve Your Favorite Number at the Craps Table with the "Place" Bet

You can pick your own point in real money craps with a place bet. It does not matter what point has been set for the rest of the table, if you put a place bet on the number eight, then eight is your own point.

Placing Sixes or Eights Is a Great Way to Start Playing Craps

If you are new to craps, one of the easiest ways to start playing without risking a lot is to put place bets on sixes or eights. You do not need to bet on the pass line to bet a place bet. All you do is put your chips (or click for online craps games) on the number you want to place. Every time this number comes up before a seven is rolled, you win. Since sixes and eights are the most common roll after a seven, it is recommended that you put your place bets on these two numbers.

You Can Quit While You Are Ahead With the Place Bet

Remember, with a place bet, you win every time the number you placed comes up before a seven. So if an eight comes up three times before either the point or a seven comes up, you win three times. Unlike many other bets, you can cash out a place bet at any time. Let's say you placed eight, and eight came up three times. You might believe that a seven is going to come up next. Simply bank your winnings by removing the place bet.

How Place Bets Can Be "Working" or "Not Working"

If you have a place bet and the shooters rolls his or her point, your bet is not affected. Since the round is over, a new point needs to be established. The next roll is considered a come out roll. If you do nothing, your bet is considered "not working." That means that no matter what the shooter rolls, your bet will not be affected. You will not lose if a seven is rolled and will not win if the number you placed comes up. Your bet starts "working" again on the next roll. On the other hand, if you are feeling lucky, you can choose to have your place bet "working" all the time - even on the come out roll.
