Craps Bets
There are dozens of different types of bets you can place when playing real money craps. You can bet with the player or the house, you can bet on specific numbers on the dice, etc. In fact, for every possible outcome you can have in a craps game, there is a bet that covers it. All of the craps bets are available whether you play craps online or you play craps in an old-fashioned casino.
Pass Line - The Basic Craps Bet
Betting on the pass line is the basic bet in craps. When you bet the pass line, you win if the first or "come-out" roll is a 7 or 11. You lose if the come-out roll is 2, 3 or 12. If a point is established, then the shooter must roll the point again before rolling a seven to win. The Pass Line bet pays even money. In other words, you can win an amount equal to what you originally bet (you also get the money you bet back). You can also bet on the opposite outcome. In other words, you can bet that the shooter will lose. This is referred to as the "Don't Pass" bet. You can increase the amount you could win by placing an odds bets behind the pass line. This will increase the amount you win if you bet on the pass line depending on what is rolled.
The Single Roll Craps Bet
You can also bet on a single roll of the dice. While Pass Line bets may take dozens of rolls to be resolved, the single roll bets are decided in seconds. The amount you can win depends on what the odds are of hitting a specific number. For example, rolling Snake Eyes (double ones) is very rare. That is why you can win thirty times the money you bet if you win. On the other hand, if you are more conservative, you can bet on any seven (Big Red). You will win four times your bet if a seven comes up on the next roll when you bet on single roll seven.
Craps Bets on Multiple Rolls
The opposite of the single roll Craps bet is the multiple roll Craps bet. Here, you are betting that a certain outcome will take place over a series of rolls. For example, betting on a "hard way" four, means that you are betting that double twos will be rolled before the shooter rolls a seven or rolls an "easy way" four (a three and a one). All doubles are referred to as hard ways. You can also bet on the reverse, the easy way bet. That means you are betting that an easy way comes up (for example, a three and a one) before the corresponding hard way (double twos).
Place, Buy, and Lay Craps Bets
When you place a "place" or "buy" bet, you are essentially setting your own point. You choose a number, for example an eight. Then if the shooter rolls an eight before a seven you win. You can do this at anytime and it does not matter what the actual point is. You can also bet the reverse, that is the "lay" bet. That means you are betting that a seven will come up before the number you choose. For example, if you have a lay bet on eight, then you win if a seven is rolled before any eight.
The Fire Bet
The Fire Bet is really neat and you can win a great deal of money if successful. Here's how it works: When you place a fire bet, you are betting that the shooter will hit a variety of different points before losing. In other words, you are hoping that the shooter wins with different numbers, many times in a row. For example, the shooter sets and then makes a point of eight. Then he sets and makes a nine, then a ten and so forth. Now, the first three points will not pay out on the fire bet, but the fourth, fifth and sixth will pay out at exceptional odds. The fourth point pays at 25-1, the fifth point pays at 250-1, and the 6th point pays at 1000-1. Remember, the points must be different numbers for them to count. If the shooter hits a point of 10 twice, he (or she) will only get credit for the first one on the fire bet.
